thoughts while shavingYesterday’s high temp was 49 degrees … Today’s forecast … Patchy fog early, mostly sunny with a high near 58 this afternoon. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 38 … Friday, mostly sunny with a high near 65.

Recently had an appointment with a dermatologist in a nearby county … Good, mostly young staff … Was ushered into a small examining room … told to strip and handed a piece of paper … maybe 4X6 … could have been slightly larger … Said someone would be back shortly … So what do you do? Strip, place clothes in a small area … attempt to wrap up in my new wardrobe … Waited, wondered what next … to make a long story shorter, eventually a young male and the check-in person returned … Checked my new wardrobe … Began to check my skin … including arms browned over the years by the sun … Young Doc asked how that happened … When I told him, years ago when we were a family of sharecroppers … He wanted to know what a sharecropper was … I fumbled, tried to explain how it was years ago … large families in demand … all worked, pay was minimal and little concern about health issues … Then remembered, how much change has taken place in the past 50, 60, 75 years … Sometimes we forget…

I began to think about games for youngsters … shooting marbles, Red Rover, red rover, skip the rope … OK!, jump rope … homemade Bingo board, used corn off the cob to cover the numbers … Not bad … just different … boys wearing only short pants … Neighbors were doing the same … just normal activities for normal youngsters 75 years ago … Sharecroppers … Oh yes, church on Sunday … with a shirt, sometimes with shoes or sandals in the summer.

Remember Hopscotch, Dodgeball, Tag, Kick the Can, Four Square, Red Light-Green Light, Simon Says, Capture the Flag, Mother May I? Don’t feel sorry … It was all educational.
