Today’s weather forecast … Sunny with a high near 56, windy, gusts as high as 17 mph. Tonight, clear with a low around 33 … Wednesday, sunny with a high near 60 and windy, gusts as high as 15 mph.

Looking ahead … the next good chance for rain is Thursday night and Friday … 50%…

Daytona NASCAR racing fans kept waiting for the big wreck … and it came with less than 10 laps remaining late Monday … William Byron was the eventual winner, driving #24 … a familiar sight in the winners circle … representing Hendrick Motorsport … In fact, a 1-2 finish for the famed racing team. Fortunately, no injuries, but some ‘banged’ up vehicles…

One ACC men’s basketball game yesterday … Virginia Tech 75 – Virginia 41

Read an article recently related to US Congressional retirements … 23 Republicans, so far, not seeking re-election … and 11 Democrats … Granted, some in the US House have sights on the US Senate or some other office, but the majority headed home. Among them is NC Rep. Patrick McHenry (R) and his loss may be among the most noticeable … He is considered a deal-maker in the US House. He has 20 plus years in Congress … from the NC Piedmont area.

The current makeup in Congress … A small Republican majority in the US House and a small Democrat majority in the Senate … D’s majority includes a couple of unaffiliated that caucus with Democrats…

Anyone remember 6-cent postage stamps and penny postcards? How ’bout 6 soft drinks for a quarter? A gallon of gas for a quarter, occasional gas war in larger areas … sometimes 20 cents and less … Could make 25 cents an hour helping harvest tobacco … ‘tight-wads’ paid a little less…
