A tight three-man battle for Dublin Motor Speedway’s Late Model championship and double points on the line in Saturday’s season finale highlight the program.

Dublin Motor SpeedwayRandy Guyton of Chadbourn has a a four-point lead over Ryder Hammond and an eight-point advantage over Robbie Turner as the season winds down at the Rattlesnake.

“It would mean a lot, especially since its our first year in a Late Model,” Guyton, 50, said in an interview with Dublin Motor Speedway in advance of Saturday’s title race, “but I’m really satisfied with what we have accomplished this year, too.”

Double points will be awarded in five divisions Saturday with the Open Wheel Modified race paying $2,000 to the winner. The Legend cars also will race at Dublin on Saturday. It also will be the final race of the season in Pure Stock, Super Street, and U-Cars.

John Marshall already has clinched the Open Wheel Modified season championship. Chris Powers in Super Street and Devin Williamson in Pure Stock can claim points titles by starting Saturday’s races.

Hammond, who is 17 years old and from Nichols, South Carolina, told the track in an interview that he doesn’t have a special plan for Saturday in an effort to catch Guyton for the title.

“Do my own thing really,” Hammond said. “Dad (Dale Hammond) has talked to me about it and, you know, we’re going to let the chips fall where they may. I’m going to race my race and see how it plays out.”

Turner, 24, has had a strong second half of the season to work his work up in the points standings and put himself in position to win the title.

“It started two months ago, I guess,” Turner said in an interview with the speedway. “We were just way off and couldn’t pinpoint it. So, we went home after a race and stripped the car completely down one Sunday and found a few things. Ever since, we’ve been a top 3 car, including a win. It helped my confidence and we are getting better and better.”

Pits open at 3 p.m. Saturday and grandstands at 5 p.m. Practice is set for 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Admission to the pits is $25 for adults, $10 for ages 6 through 12, and free for ages 5 and under. Admission to the grandstands is $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and military with proper ID, $8 for students ages 13 to 18 with proper ID, and free for ages 12 and under.
