BURGAW – East Bladen scored well in the sprints and relays Thursday to place 3rd in both the boys and girls team competitions in the 1st Waccamaw Conference track & field meet of the season.

The Eagle boys tallied 87 points to place 3rd behind Whiteville (142) and South Columbus (106) and ahead of Pender (69) and West Columbus (61).

Whiteville won the girls meet with 191 points followed by Pender (100), East Bladen (78) and West Columbus (26).

Winning events for the Eagle boys were junior Chace Butler in the 100-meter dash and senior Jadon Pridgen in the discus. The East Bladen 4×100 meter (Butler, Matthew Kemp, Tevin McLean, Kewone Maynor, and Jayden Dailey) and the 4×400 meter (Dominick Collins, Ronnie Covington, Kaden McKoy, Kemp and Xavier Potts) relay teams also won.

Jacob Caulder finished 2nd in the 3200 meters, and the 4×200 meter (Butler, Masion Brooks, Kemp, McLean and Dailey) relay team was 2nd.

In the girls meet, the 4×100 meter (Trinity Kemp, Nyasia Banks, Mariah Ward, Aaliyah Monroe and Laila Smith), 4×200 meter (Kemp, Banks, Smith, Zahreonna Baldwin and Ward) and 4×400 meter (Naiherna Leach, Malay’jah Gillespie, Allysa Stringfield, Zkya Drake) all won their events.

Layla Lent finished 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles. Laila Smith was 2nd in the 200 meters and Trinity Kemp placed 2nd in the 100 meters.
