ST PAULS – St. Pauls captured 1st place in both the boys and girls Three Rivers Conference 3-team meet with East Bladen and Fairmont Thursday.

The Bulldog boys totaled 76.5 points to outscore East Bladen (62.5 points) and Fairmont (10). St. Pauls held a 17-5 edge in the throwing events and a 19.5-5.5 advantage in the jumps. East Bladen dominated the distance runs by a 23-9 margin in points.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated East Bladen 63 points to 45. Fairmont scored 22 points. St. Pauls held a 19-10 advantage in the distance events and an 11-0 edge in the jumps. The Lady Eagles won the relays by a 15-5 point margin.

Senior A. J. Smith won both of his events for the 3rd consecutive meet. Smith captured 1st place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 27 seconds. In the 800 meters Smith claimed top honors with a time of 2 minutes, 30 seconds.

Sophomore Jacob Nixon racked up 8 points for the Eagle boys winning the 3200 meters (13 min. 2 sec.) and finishing 3rd in the 1600 meters (5 min. 36 sec.) and 4th in the 800 meters (2 min. 38 sec.).

Sophomore Malcolm Bolden dashed to the 200 meter victory in 23.7 seconds and was 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4 inches. Sophomore Blaine Pope won the 400 meters with a time of 56 seconds for the Eagles.

The Eagles 4×800 (9min. 39 sec.) and 4×400 (3 min. 58sec.) relay teams both posted victories, and the 4×200 (1 min. 38 sec.) and 4×100 relay (45 sec.) teams both finished 2nd to the Bulldogs.

Freshman Zachary Metz took 2nd place in the 1600 meters (5 min. 35 sec.) and was 3rd in the 800 meters (2 min. 36 sec.). Freshman Yontee Dobson placed 3rd in the high jump (5 ft. 4 in.) and 4th in the long jump (16 ft. 10 in.).

Senior Demondta Smith claimed 3rd place in the 400 meters for the Eagles in 58 seconds. Senior Devin Bowen hurled the discus 98 ft. 5 in. to take 3rd place, sophomore Zylique Lewis was 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 35 feet.

Senior Collin McKoy placed 4th in the shot with a toss of 29 ft. 7 in., and junior Timothy McLean was 4th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.6 seconds.

Junior Cate DeVane won 2 events for the Lady Eagles capturing 1st place in the 1600 meters with a time of 6 min. 44 sec. and claiming top honors in the 800 meters with a time of 2 min. 50 sec.

Junior Maya McDonald raced to victory in the 200 meters with a time of 28.7 seconds and placed 2nd in the 100 meters in 13.7 seconds. The East Bladen girls 4×200 (2 min. 4 sec.), 4×100 (58 sec.) and 4×400 (5 min. 9 sec.) relay teams won their races.

Versatile junior Nacaela Melvin tallied 6 points for East Bladen, finishing 2nd in the discus with a throw of 48 ft. 6 in., 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 17 ft. 4.5 in. and 4th in the 400 meters with a time of 1 min. 26 sec.

Senior Aniyah McKoy took 2nd place in the 200 meters for the Eagles in 30.4 seconds. Senior De’Angela Moore was 3rd in the discus with a throw of 47 ft. 10 in. and 4th in the shot with a heave of 15 ft, 8 in.

Other competitors for the Eagle boys were senior Jeremiah Jones, junior Robert McKoy, Tyreon Graham, sophomore Bailey Williams and freshmen Omarion Atkinson, Jayden Dailey, Jair McElveen and Jacob Caulder.

Also competing for the Eagle girls were junior Azariah Rhodie and freshman Tayla Jackson.
