West Bladen grad Trevor Lesane has announced that he will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA Division II afforded to the athletes whose seasons were cut short by COVID-19 in 2020 and return to Erskine College in 2021 for another attempt at his senior baseball season.

“After talking to all my teammates and coaches, I felt like it was the right thing for me to come back for another season to finish what we started,” said Lesane. “We are on a mission here at Erskine College to win a national championship.”

Lesane shared that the Flying Fleet were riding a 6-game winning streak going into their big rivalry game against North Greenville University for first place in the conference when one day before the game they received “the worst news ever that our season was going to be cut short.”

Three of the nine seniors on that 2020 team are returning to play in 2021. ”With the addition of the new class coming in it should be a great season to look forward to as we are looking even more powerful,” stated Lesane.

Before the 2020 season was halted, the Tar Heel native batted .272 with 20 runs batted in and 22 runs scored in 25 games and belted 7 doubles and a home run.

Lesane plans to graduate in May with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in psychology.
