ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen pulled out a victory in the 5th set to edge Clinton 3-2 Tuesday night in the Lady Eagles’ non-conference season-opener.

Clinton took the 1st 2 sets 25-12 and 25-18, but the Lady Eagles battled back to win the final 3 sets 25-23, 25-20 and 15-12.

Lady Eagle junior Miriam Devane pounded in 11 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace and had 19 attacks, 2 digs and 1 assist. Senior Dyiamon Robinson hammered in 2 kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace and had 3 attacks, 2 digs and 1 assist. Junior Martha Simmons slammed in 5 kills, 3 aces and had 7 attacks and a dig.

Senior Molly Evans dished out 12 assists and contributed 3 aces, 2 digs and 3 attacks for the winners. Junior Iveonna “NeNe” Ward racked up 18 attacks, 2 aces, a kill and 4 digs. Junior Mary Frances Sutton fired in a kill, an ace and had 12 attacks.

Senior Zoe Smith came up with 3 digs and had 3 attacks for East. Senior Karly Ross distributed 5 assists and had 3 digs. Junior Mollie Tolar knocked in a kill and had 7 attacks.

East Bladen will host West Bladen Thursday.
