FAIRMONT- Fairmont held off a West Bladen rally and defeated the Lady Knights 3-1 Tuesday night by set scores of 25-20, 26-24, 21-25 and 25-19 in the Three Rivers Conference volleyball opener for both schools.

After Fairmont took the initial set, West Bladen opened the second with a 10-1 run sparked by the serving of senior Ashlyn Cox. Fairmont rallied back, fought off a set point at 24-23 and went up 2-0 with the 26-24 win.

The Lady Tornadoes built a lead in the 3rd set, but the Lady Knights rallied for a 25-21 victory. Fairmont grabbed an early 13-5 lead in the 4th set before West Bladen closed to within 17-15.

Cox poured in 17 service points that included 11 aces, 2 kills and dished out 14 assists. Senior teammate Sidnee Walters hammered in 18 kills, an ace and had 5 digs. Senior Shelby Pharr fired in 9 service points including 2 aces, 2 kills and had one dig.

Senior Emily Young filled up the stat sheet with 3 kills, 3 blocks, 5 service points including 2 aces and 7 digs for West. Senior Amelia Brisson knocked in 5 service points including 4 aces, a kill and had 9 digs.

Sophomore Catherine Dowless racked up 6 digs, an ace and 3 other service points for the Lady Knights. Senior Alyssa Suggs tallied 2 service points including an ace and had 2 digs.

West Bladen, now 2-2 overall, will entertain Red Springs Tuesday at 4:30.
