ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Reese Hester defeated teammate Chandler Bordeaux 6-2, 6-1 in the singles championship match of the Waccamaw Conference 1A Girls Tennis Tournament Wednesday at Bladen County Park.

Hester and Bordeaux were the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the tourney and received 1st round byes. Hester rolled past West Columbus’ Taylor Lancaster 6-1, 6-0 in her semifinal match, while Bordeaux defeated West Columbus’ Morgan Nix 6-0, retired, in the other semifinal.

Both Hester and Bordeaux will advance to the Mid-East Regionals Friday, Oct. 20th at Herman Park in Goldsboro.

The East Columbus doubles team of Hannah King and Josie Welch won the doubles championship 6-3, 6-0 over Lady Gator teammates Sara Sessions and Gemilia Calderon. Both East Columbus doubles teams will advance to the regionals.

East Bladen’s doubles team of Leah McGill and Gabriela Bray upset No. 3 seed Jayden Williamson and Lillianna Miller of West Columbus in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The McGill/Bray team lost 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals to the Sessions/Calderson team.

The Lady Eagles other doubles team of Bethany Kulp and Kimora Jernigan received a forfeit in the opening round but lost to top-seeded King/Welch 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
