Newly re-elected commissioners of the Town of White Lake were given their oath of office Tuesday evening by Mayor Goldston Womble. Mike Suggs, Paul Evans and Tim Blount were welcomed back for continued service on the Board.

With the retirement of Town Clerk Brenda Clark, the White Lake Board of Commissioners named the office of Town Administrator (Sean Martin) as interim town clerk until the hiring process for the town clerk position has been completed. Ms. Clark served the Town for years and retired in November.

Staff also requested that the Board form a temporary hiring subcommittee to assist in the candidate selection process for the following vacant positions: Town Clerk, Public Works Director, and Lake Water Management Consultant. This subcommittee, composed of Mayor Goldston Womble, Dean Hilton, and Paul Evans, will work with the town administrator during the selection process for the positions and then report back to the board with nominations for appointments.

The White Lake “Lake” Management monthly report was provided as information to the board. The full report can be found at https://whitelakewatch.com/. In other administrative matters, the board approved the November tax releases ($61.23), utility releases ($3,287.77), and tax refunds ($81.92); and approved capital project ordinance/amendment for Phase II of the Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project (total project cost $2,997,358).

After much discussion, the Board approved a resolution for a law enforcement recruitment and retention program to assist Police Chief Bruce Smith in securing recruits for two open positions within the department. The board will continue to look for additional ways to make salary and benefits competitive with surrounding departments in order to recruit the best officers.

The town Offices will be closed on December 23rd, 24th, and 27th for Christmas and also closed on December 31st for the New Year’s holidays.
