The word psychology comes from the words psycho and logic. The Greek word psycho refers to mental activity. On the other hand, the word logic means study.
The beginnings of psychology go back to the time of the presocratic philosophers. Philosophers, searching for answers to their origins, began to study different types of human behaviors and processes. That is why in ancient times, psychology was closely related to the roots of philosophy. It wasn’t until the year 1879 that it was considered a separate branch of the study of philosophy. This event was given thanks to the physiologist, philosopher, and psychologist Wilhelm Wundt. It was Wundt who founded the first experimental psychology laboratory in Germany.
Psychology is a science that studies social behavior. This discipline focuses on learning the way of acting and thinking. Psychology takes into account aspects such as experience and sensations to guide its studies. It includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena. Likewise, he focuses some of his research on topics such as feeling and thought. This gives us the understanding that psychology is a science with an immense field of study. Different types of analysis and methods verify these studies.
The human mind and behavior have been two of the essential questions in history. Psychology strives to solve the different questions about human behavior every day. Social, cultural, and biological aspects are considered to influence performance. In addition, they have a broad relationship with perception, attention, motivation, and intelligence.
One of the greatest exponents of psychology is Sigmund Freud. This neurologist, the founder of psychoanalysis, was born in 1856 in the Czech Republic. He is recognized worldwide as the father of psychoanalysis. Freud synthesized essential aspects of human behavior in his studies. Plot theories on the influence of childhood on personality, behavior, and memory. In addition, he revolutionized psychology with the disturbing factor of the subconscious, the deepest field of study of the mind. Sigmund Freud revealed through various studies that unexplored parts of the mind existed in the subconscious. He died in 1939 in London.
