ELIZABETHTOWN – With family, friends, teammates, coaches and administrators in attendance, East Bladen soccer stars Zac Metz and Heidi Rebollar signed Thursday to continue their soccer careers at Cape Fear Community College for the 2024-25 school year.

Rebollar was a 2023 All-State selection as a junior after helping lead her Lady Eagle team to a 15-4-1 record and into the 3rd round of the state playoffs. She was also named All-Region and All-Southeastern Athletic Conference.

“Heidi is one of the best that I have coached as far as being able to contribute on both sides of the ball,” said Lady Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “Heidi was a catalyst for our attack coming out of midfield and can hurt you with her ability on the ball while attacking. She can also lock you down defensively.”

Rebollar is expected to play as a center defensive midfielder at Cape Fear. “She can play anywhere,” said Raynor. “But they will keep her in the middle of the field. Her power is her greatest asset.”

The Cape Fear Community women’s team has featured former East Bladen star Maya McDonald, who has been the Region Player of the Year. The Sea Devils have reached the NJCAA Division II National Tournament the past 2 seasons.

Metz, a senior centerback, was credited with 425 steals (22.4 steals per game) and dished out 5 assists as the Eagles recorded a 14-7 record and reached the 2nd round of the state playoffs. He was named All-Waccamaw Conference and All-Region this fall.

“Zac is involved in all aspects of the game,” said Raynor. “He had numerous blocks and tackles in our 1-0 win over West Bladen and made great decisions on shielding balls in the back and earning goal kicks. Zac can play just about anywhere in the field and that gave us different looks for our attack.”

Metz will probably stay at left back for the Sea Devils. “He is left-footed and can quickly transition into a winger and counterattack,” said Raynor. “He makes great decisions.”
