West Bladen’s third trip to the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series, another honor for Coach Patty Evers and a number of honors for summer all-star teams headlined the third quarter Bladen Sports Highlights for 2015.

West Bladen’s Knights made their third consecutive trip to the Dixie Youth Pre-Majors World Series in Guntersville, AL. The Knights won their first two games in the World Series then dropped their final two games.

West Bladen defeated Duplin County 5-2 in the championship game of the Dixie Pre-Majors State Tournament and also won their summer league’s post-season tournament with a 4-3 victory over North Myrtle Beach, SC in the championship game.

East Bladen Athletic Director and Coach Patty Evers was named to the North Carolina School High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors and will serve a four-year term that began July 1.

“It’s a huge honor even to be considered,” said Coach Evers who will represent Region 4 on the board. “It is one of the biggest honors that I have received, especially as a coach. A lot of the members of the Board are school superintendents or county athletic directors.”

Elizabethtown rolled through the Dixie Youth District 9 Minors Tournament undefeated defeating West Robeson National 20-8 in the championship game.

Members of the District 9 Champions who advanced to the State Minors Tournament in Lillington were: Carson Gooden, Coleman Tatum, Nathan Howell, Tyler Johnson, Garrison Tatum, Elijah Bullard, Jake Futrell, Evan Pait, Zamar Lewis, Ryan Johnson, Jackson Wright, Ty Mathis, and Walker Ward. Coaches were Kim Johnson, Smiley Butler, Steve Tatum, and Grant Pait.

Bladen County represented District 2 in the NC Dixie Youth Coach-Pitch State Tournament at Pembroke. Members of Coach Joseph Russ’ Bladen County All-Stars were: Jonah Bryan, Hunter Hester, Aiden Russ, Neveah Singletary, Cade Allen, Malikah Moore, Conner Monroe, Emmanuel Drew, Chason Harris, Richard Severine, Tyler Jacobs, and Joshua Strickland.

Elizabethtown defeated West Robeson 9-1 to win the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Supplemental Tournament Championship.

Members of the Elizabethtown Majors Supplemental team were Luke Norton, Malcolm Bolden, Jackson Bostic, Zachary Butler, Kory Smith, Ahmad Powell, Tyler Hill, Will Hester, Jaylin Robinson, Jadacus Register, Ayden Piland, Jayson Baxter. Coaches were Kyle Bostic, Walter Powell and Les Hill.

The Elizabethtown All-Stars qualified for the NC Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament in Cerro Gordo where they were awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy. Team members were Grayson Clark, Ethan Johnson, Raymond Autry, Makhi Cromartie, Garrett Melvin, Chase Starkloff, RaSean McKoy, Victor Campbell, Zachary Meares, Drew Sholar, Brady Hollingsworth and Jacob Priest. Coaches were Ashley Harrelson, Warren Sholar and Barry Priest.

Three Bladen County girls – Carley Dawson, Abby Dawson and Conner Brisson – were members of the Lumberton Dixie Belles softball team that won the NC State Dixie Belles Tournament and finished second in the Dixie Belles World Series in West Monroe, LA.

Clarkton native Kayla Thompson carded an even-par total of 216 to lead her UNC-Wilmington Lady Seahawks to the championship of the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA.

Thompson shot rounds of 70, 74, and 72 to finish tied for third individually with her UNC-W teammate Annette Lyche, a native of Norway.
