BLADENBORO – West Bladen’s defense held South Robeson scoreless in the fourth quarter as the Lady Knights claimed a 36-27 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory Thursday night.
The Lady Knights took a 30-27 lead at the third quarter break. Juniors Kasee Singletary and Seniah Johnson threw in baskets in the final period, and freshman Haley George sank 2 free throws.
George led the Lady Knight scoring with 13 points, and junior Lexie Corrothers pumped in 10 points. Johnson and senior Carley Dawson finished with 4 points each.
Center Nytia Lewis dropped in 10 points for South Robeson, and Zaneta Ellerbee scored 6 points.
George drained a 3-point shot and 2 free throws in the first quarter. Corrothers tossed in a basket and a free throw, and junior Mikayla Meadows netted a free throw as the Lady Knights built a 9-7 lead.
Lewis flipped in 5 points to keep the Lady Mustangs close. Ellerbee and Jakirra White tallied 3 points each as South Robeson knotted the score 15-15 at halftime.
Dawson, Johnson and George kept the Lady Knights even with second quarter baskets.
Corrothers nailed a 3-point shot, another basket and 2 free throws in the third period, and George fired in a pair of baskets. Dawson and Jessica Labra contributed baskets as the Lady Knights opened up a 30-27 lead. Lewis tallied 5 points for the visitors in the quarter.
The Lady Knights, now 10-5 in the TRC and 13-7 overall, will travel to St. Pauls Friday night.
