ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown reeled off 12 unanswered runs to rally past Red Springs 13-3 Monday night in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.

Elizabethtown pitchers Daveon Lewis, Jackson Smith and Garrett Dunham combined to pitch a one-hitter and strike out 11 batters in the game. Lewis struck out four batters in the first two innings while giving up three runs on three walks and Keithan Clark’s 2-run double.

Smith struck out five in 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Smith allowed no hits and two walks. Dunham came on to strike out the only two batters that he faced in the fifth inning.

After the Clark double staked Red Springs to the early 2-0 lead. Dunham slammed a double to left-center field and raced home on Kalec Autry’s double in the bottom of the first.

After Red Springs scored a second inning run to push the lead to 3-1, Elizabethtown rallied in the third inning. Nolan Tatum laced a single to left-center field and sprinted home when Zach Sholar drilled a triple into the right field corner. After Chace Butler reached base on a fielder’s choice, Dunham beat out an infield hit.

Darius Williamson walloped a triple to right-center field that plated Butler and Dunham. Autry legged out an infield hit as Williamson scored to put Elizabethtown in front 5-3.

The winners pulled away with a 7-run fourth inning. Gavin Elks led off with a single to right-center field, and Tatum hammered a double to centerfield that scored Elks. Butler walked, and Williamson ripped a single to centerfield that scored Tatum and Butler.

Autry walked, and Jordan Hester smoked a grounder past the first baseman that plated Williamson and Autry. Lewis walked, and Elks scorched a double down the left field line that scored Hester and Lewis and padded the lead to 12-3.

Butler slapped an opposite-field double to left, and scored the game-ending run when Dunham smashed a liner to right-center field.

Dunham finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Williamson batted 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBI’s and two runs scored. Tatum finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Autry and Hester both batted 2-for-2 with 2 RBI’s each and scored one run each. Elks finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored. Sholar tripled and drove in a run. Butler doubled and scored three runs, and Lewis scored a run.

Elizabethtown will play West Robeson American Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a game that will decide a berth in the DYB Majors State Tournament and a berth in Wednesday’s District 9 title game against Fairmont.
