Spread the love

As American Education Week comes to an end, today we recognize substitute teachers and the vital role they play in education.

Substitute teachers are flexible. Whether they need to fill in for a twelfth grade math class or a Kindergarten class, they are willing and ready to serve where they are needed, and many times it is short notice.

Here are some ideas on how you can celebrate substitute teachers from National Day Calendar:

  • Give a shout-out to a substitute teacher you know.

  • Recommend a substitute teacher to your school.

  • Let your child’s school know how well a substitute teacher did.

  • Teach your children to respect a substitute teacher and classroom teacher.

  • While it might be difficult to do, learn the names of the substitute teachers who frequently work in your school.

  • Send a note of encouragement.

  • If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, learn the requirements in your state.

  • Share your experiences as a substitute teacher.

Bladen County Schools currently employs 124 substitute teachers. 21 of those substitute teachers are serving a long-term role currently. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a substitute teacher for Bladen County Schools, an Effective Teacher Training Course must be completed.  Courses are offered at local community colleges or they can complete the course through the App-Garden program on the Human Resources page on the Bladen County Schools website.

Bladen County Schools says, “We are very appreciative of the substitutes in our school system.  They do an excellent job working with the staff and students in the schools.”
