Midway pulled away with 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning to claim an 8-3 Four County Conference junior varsity victory at West Bladen Friday. It was the conference opener for both schools.
The visiting Raiders scored 3 runs in the top of the first, but West Bladen bunched hits by Scott Bowen, Brandon Carson, Ray Jones and Hunter Pait in the bottom of the first to score 2 runs. Carson and Jones scored the Knight runs.
Midway stretched the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth then pulled away with the 4 runs in the top of the sixth.
Jonathan Robinson belted a single and scored the final Knight run in the bottom of the sixth. Oliver Castillo knocked in Robinson with a single.
Hunter Pait and Bowen both batted 2-3 to lead the Knight hitters. Carson, Jones, Robinson, John Ashworth, Ian Sykes and Castillo all collected one hit each.
Bowen started on the mound and pitched the first 5 innings for West Bladen. Trey Storms relieved Bowen in the sixth inning.
The Knights are now 2-1 overall.
