Bladenboro native Abbey Walters batted 5-7 with 2 doubles and 3 runs-batted-in Wednesday, but her UNC-Pembroke Lady Braves lost a game and tied one at Coker College in Hartsville, SC.
Coker won the first game 7-5 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the nightcap the Lady Braves had 2 runners in scoring position with one out in the top of the eighth with the score tied 8-8 when the game was called because of darkness. Walters was due up when the game was called.
In the first game, Walters cracked a single leading off the second inning, stole second base and raced home on Toni Nelson’s single.
Walters smacked another single in the third inning, then knocked in a run with a double in the fifth inning.
In the nightcap, Walters drove in a run with a first inning single and eventually scored on a sacrifice bunt as the Lady Braves grabbed a 4-0 lead.
In the second inning, a Walters sacrifice fly drove in another run as the UNC-Pembroke lead grew to 7-0.
The West Bladen grad hammered a 2-out double in the fifth inning and sprinted home on Savannah Melvin’s single to push the lead to 8-1.
Walters leads UNC-Pembroke in batting average (.529), hits (9), and slugging percentage (.647).
The Lady Braves are 1-3-1 on the season and will return to action Wednesday at Pfeiffer.
