CLARKTON – Jackson Wright pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead Elizabethtown to a 17-5 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery WednesdayThe Blue Devils jumped in front with a first-inning run. Nyquan Richardson walloped a lead-off triple and scored on Nazire Smith’s fielder’s choice. Korey Smith ignited a 5-run Cougar third-inning with a double, and Chase Starkloff knocked him in with a triple. Coleman Tatum slammed a double that scored Starkloff, and Wright smacked a single that plated Coleman Tatum. Elijah Bullard pounded a triple that scored Wright, and Evan Pait’s fielder’s choice scored Bullard for a 5-1 Cougar lead. The Blue Devils rallied for two runs in the home third. Parker Greene walked and raced home when Richardson clobbered a double. Davion Graham clubbed a double that scored Richardson and sliced the margin to 5-3.

The Cougars pushed their lead back to 6-3 in the fourth inning. Starkloff cracked a 2-out single and sprinted home when Coleman Tatum drilled a double. Hunter Elks and Garrison Tatum started the Cougar sixth inning with singles. Starkloff lined a double that plated Elks and Tatum. Wright delivered a double that scored Starkloff. Bullard crushed a triple that scored Wright then scored on Ty Mathis’ sacrifice fly that pushed the Cougar lead to 11-3.

Clarkton answered with 2 runs in the home sixth. Samaj Dove and Lee Barnes drew walks, and both runners raced home when Nick Bullock slammed a double to close the gap to 11-5. Hunter Smith walked to begin the seventh inning, and Elks slapped a single to drive him in. Garrison Tatum was hit by a pitch, and Chase Knight reached base on a passed third strike. Wright blasted a triple that scored both runners.

Mathis drove in Wright with a single and eventually scored the final Cougar run. Starkloff batted a perfect 4-4 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in to lead the Cougar hitters. Wright finished 3-5 at the plate with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and 4 rbi’s. Elks batted 2-2 with 2 runs scored.

Coleman Tatum turned in a 2-3 day at the plate with a double, 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Bullard batted 2-4 with a pair of triples, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi’s. Korey Smith doubled and scored a run. Mathis, Pait, Zamar Lewis and Garrison Tatum collected one hit each.

Mathis drove in 2 runs, and Pait had one rbi. Garrison Tatum scored 2 runs, and KoSmith, Knight and Mathis scored one run each.

Richardson batted 2-4 with a pair of triples, an rbi and 2 runs scored to lead Clarkton. Graham was also 2-4 with a double, a run scored and an rbi. Bullock laced the 2-run double and scored a run.

Barnes added a single, and Dove, Barnes, Bullock and Greene scored runs. Nazire Smith drove in a run. Barnes started on the mound for the Blue Devils.
