DUNN – Senior John McLamb pitched a 5-hit shutout and struck out 14 batters to lead Midway to a 6-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.
West Bladen, now 1-1 in SAC play and 5-8 overall, will visit Clinton Wednesday night. Midway improved to 2-0 in league play and 10-4 overall and will travel to Fairmont Wednesday night.
Two walks, an error, and run-scoring singles by Wyatt Herring and Carson Tew staked the Raiders to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. A hit batter, a walk, McLamb’s RBI single and a run-scoring double by Tripp Westbrook padded the Midway lead to 4-0 in the 4th inning.
A walk, a hit batter, Herring’s RBI double and an error widened the gap to 6-0 in the 5th.
Freshman Ashton Davis smashed a single to right field, and junior Garrett Dunham lined a single to center in the Knight 1st inning. However a strikeout and a caught stealing ended the threat.
Davis and Dunham drew walks to start the Knight 4th inning. After another caught stealing, junior Cade Allen belted a single. However a ground out and a strikeout stranded the runners.
Junior Allister Russ, Davis, Dunham, Allen and junior Aiden Russ contributed 1 hit each to the Knight attack.
Sophomore Hunter Hester started on the hill for West and pitched 2.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 1. Aiden Russ worked 3.1 innings of relief and gave up 4 runs – 3 earned- on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2.
Herring batted 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead the Raider attack. Westbrook slammed an RBI double, and Tew and McLamb cracked RBI hits.
