RED SPRINGS – A 6-run, 5th inning rally propelled Red Springs to a 13-5 non-conference baseball victory over West Bladen Wednesday night.

West Bladen carried a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the 5th, but singles by Tyler McMillian, Matthew Locklear, Terrence Barefield and Aaron Goins, 3 walks and an error produced 6 Red Devil runs as Red Springs took a 10-5 lead.

Singles by Jaylon Lowery, Henry Buie and Barefield plus an error helped the Red Devils stretch their lead to 13-5 in the 6th inning.

Barefield batted 3-for-4 with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the Red Devil hitters. Jacob Locklear finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Skyler Locklear turned in a 2-for-3 game. Dorian Bryant doubled and scored 2 runs.

Junior Lenny Berrios pitched 2 innings in relief of Barefield to pick up the win. Skyler Locklear pitched the final inning for Red Springs.

Sophomore Michael Young finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and drove in a run to lead the Knight hitters. Junior Devon Strange batted 2-for-4 with a double and scored 2 runs. Sophomore Bryce Fuller doubled in a run. Sophomore Hunter Elks singled and scored twice, and junior Bryley Williams singled and drove in a run.

Sophomore Hunter Smith started on the mound for the Knights and pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 4 runs – 2 earned – on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out four. Williams relieved and worked 2 innings on the hill giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3.

Strange followed Williams to the mound and allowed 2 runs – 0 earned – on a hit and 2 walks. Junior Alex Brisson pitched the final 1.2 innings for West and gave up 3 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits while striking out two.

Elks, Brisson and Smith drew consecutive walks to start the game. Williams lined a single to right field that scored Elks, and junior Alex Strange, the courtesy runner for Smith, dashed home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Knight lead.

A walk and an error followed by Jacob Locklear’s 2-run single tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the first.

Elks ripped a single to left in the 3rd inning. Brisson walked, and Elks stole 3rd base. Elks darted home on a passed ball to edge the Knights ahead 3-2. Bryant doubled in the Red Devil 3rd inning and scored the tying run on a passed ball. Jacob Locklear laid down a bunt single and scored on a bases-loaded walk to edge Red Springs in front 4-3.

Devon Strange drilled a double to center field in the Knight 4th inning. Young ripped a single to center field, and Fuller hammered a double to left that scored Devon Strange to tie the game 4-4.

Devon Strange reached base on a passed 3rd strike in the 5th inning and raced home when Young slugged a double to right field to put the Knights in front 5-4.

West Bladen, now 1-3, will travel to East Bladen Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
