BURGAW – East Bladen’s girls rode a strong showing in the sprints, hurdles and relays to a 4th place finishin the girls meet, while the East boys did well in the sprints and the relays to place 4th in the boys’ meet at the 6th Waccamaw Conference track & field meet of the season Thursday at Pender High.

Heide Trask won the boys meet by 100 points over 2nd place Pender (206.5-106.5). Whiteville placed 3rd (98), followed by East Bladen (84), South Columbus (81) West Columbus (31) and East Columbus (6).

Trask also won the girls meet with 153 points followed by Whiteville (131), Pender (126), East Bladen (90), South Columbus (32), and West Columbus (25).

Junior Chace Butler won both the 100 and 200 meter sprints for East Bladen, and the 4×100 relay team of Butler, Jayden Dailey, Masion Brooks, Matthew Kemp, and Tevin McLean also won. Eagle sophomore Ronnie Covington finished 2nd in both the 400 meters and the high jump.

In the girls meet, junior Laila Smith and sophomore Ariel Cromartie gave the Lady Eagles a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter hurdles. East Bladen’s Nyasia Banks finished 2nd in the 100 meters, and teammate Naiherna Leach was 2nd in the triple jump.

The Lady Eagle 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams (Trinity Kemp, Zahreonna Baldwin, Nyasia Banks, Cromartie and Smith) both placed 2nd in their events.
