RED SPRINGS – Senior Gabriel Locklear’s 2-run double highlighted a 3-run third-inning that carried Red Springs to a 3-1 victory over East Bladen Tuesday night in a Three Rivers Conference baseball opener.

Senior Jayshawn Carthen singled and senior Jaylen Mack was hit by a pitch to start the Red Devil third and both raced home on Locklear’s double. Winning pitcher Darren Bowen drove in Locklear with a single.

Senior Dan Tatum slammed a double and scored the Eagle run in the fourth inning. Sophmore Brady Hollingsworth reached base on an error, and sophmore Freddy Wooten ripped a double, but both runners were stranded in scoring position.

Wooten led the Eagle hitters with the double and a single. Tatum and senior Shy Pone hammered doubles, and Hollingsworth, senior Spencer Scott and junior Gabe Barber connected for one hit each.

Bowen struck out 14 batters in 6.2 innings to pick up the win for the Red Devils. Scott pitched the first 4 innings for East and struck out 5 batters. Sophmore Zach Meares relieved and struck out 3 in his two innings on the mound.

The Eagles will travel to West Columbus Thursday.
