BLADENBORO – Junior Garrett Dunham raked a walk-off single to left field in the 8th inning that gave West Bladen a 2-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball victory over Fairmont Tuesday night.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights improved to 4-3 in SAC play and 8-10 overall and will visit Fairmont Friday night. The Tornadoes are also 4-3 in the league and 8-11 overall.

Junior Allister Russ reached base on an error to start the Knight 8th inning. Sophomore Josh Dawson and junior Aiden Russ drew walks to load the bases, before Dunham smoked a hard grounder through the hole to drive in Allister Russ and end the game.

Dunham pitched all 8 innings for the Knights and allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9.

West Bladen scored in the 2nd inning. Dawson drew a 2-out walk, and courtesy runner Jonah Bryan stole 2nd base. Aiden Russ reached base on a passed 3rd strike, and Bryan sprinted home as the throw to 1st base went into right field then was mishandled on the return throw.

Parker Chavis led off the Tornado 4th inning with a single, advanced on an error and scored the tying run on Kenley Callahan’s single.

Dunham batted 2-for-5 with a run batted in to lead the Knight hitters. Freshman Ashton Davis and senior Jordan Hester added a single each for West Bladen. Bryan and Allister Russ scored 1 run each. The Knights stranded 10 runners on base and left the bases loaded in the 7th inning.

Parker Chavis, Austin Locklear and Callahan connected for 1 hit each for Fairmont. Callahan drove in a run, and Chavis scored a run.

Parker Chavis pitched 6 innings allowing an unearned run on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. Callahan worked 1.1 innings of relief and allowed an unearned run on a hit and 5 walks.
