HOBBTON- Sophomore Jahmar Richardson scored the deciding run as West Bladen rallied with 3 runs in the 7th inning to edge Hobbton 3-2 Thursday night in non-conference baseball action.
Junior Hunter Elks walked to begin the Knights winning rally. Senior Josh Russ smashed a double to right field that sent Elks to 3rd base. Elks darted home on a wild pitch, and Richardson drew a walk. Junior Bryce Fuller’s fielder’s choice brought home Russ with the tying run.
Richardson reached 2nd base on the fielder’s choice, stole 3rd and dashed home on an error with the go-ahead run.
Senior Devon Strange gave up a 1-out walk in the Wildcat half of the 7th then struck out the next 2 batters to end the game. Devon Strange walked 2 and struck out 4 in his 2 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the victory.
Knight junior Garrison Carr started on the mound and worked 5 innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out five.
“We gave them the first 2 runs on errors,” said West Bladen Coach John Ammons. “Garrison battled to keep us in it and we finally got it going in the seventh.”
The first 2 Hobbton batters reached base on errors in the 2nd inning and Will Thorton’s 1-out single plated the 2nd run. However the Knights ended the inning with a shortstop Bryley Williams to second baseman Alex Brisson to first baseman Brycen Blackmon double play.
Russ doubled and scored a run to lead the West hitters. Senior Alex Strange and Elks belted singles. Elks and Richardson scored runs, and Fuller had a run-batted-in.
Nate McLamb batted 2-for-4 to lead Hobbton. Thorton had the RBI single, and Garrett Britt singled. Thorton pitched 5 scoreless innings, struck out 6 and allowed 2 hits. Britt worked 1-plus innings of relief and gave up 2 earned runs on a hit and a walk. Bennett Darden pitched the final inning and allowed an unearned run on a walk.
The Knights improved to 4-3 and will host East Bladen Friday at 6:30.
