WHITEVILLE – Senior Dylan Lawson and junior Jake Harwood combined to pitch a one-hitter and strikeout 11 batters as Whiteville defeated East Bladen 7-0 Friday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

Lawson allowed a second-inning single to Eagle sophmore Zach Meares and one walk while striking out ten batters in six innings. Harwood pitched a hitless seventh and struck out one.

Sophmore Jacob Allgood batted 2-2 with 3 runs batted in to lead the Whiteville hitters. Lawson finished 2-4 at the plate with an rbi and a run scored. Juniors Lincoln Ransom and Jake Inman slammed doubles.

An error and a walk led to a trio of unearned runs in the first inning for the Wolfpack. Lawson cracked an rbi single, and Allgood belted a 2-run single.

Ransom’s double, a Lawson single and four walks led to four Whiteville runs in the third inning.

Senior Pierce Melvin started on the mound for the Eagles and worked 2-plus innings allowing 7 runs – 4 earned – on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out three. Sophmore Freddy Wooten pitched the final 4 scoreless innings for East and allowed 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out seven.

The Eagles, now 7-2 in league play and 9-2 overall, will host South Columbus Tuesday night.
