park_picThe Slammers opened the Bladen Recreation 13-16 Fast-Pitch Softball League season with an 18-3 victory over the Comets Monday night.

Jordan Kinlaw fired a one-hitter and struck out 7 in four innings to pick up the pitching victory for the Slammers. Kinlaw walked five. Olivia Hollingsworth started in the circle for the Comets and was relieved in the fourth inning by Hannah Hill.

The Slammers jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning. Johanna Parker singled and Abbie Cross and Izzy Smith drew walks. Parker raced home on a wild pitch, and Cross scored on Alayna Weeks sacrifice fly to left field.

In the Slammer second inning, Cybil Campbell walked, stole a base and darted home when Kinlaw smacked a single. After Ruth Ward walked, Kirsten Starkloff drilled a 2-run double to right-centerfield that scored Kinlaw and Ward. Adrienne Howell drove in Starkloff with a single that pushed the lead to 6-0.

Demeary Britt walked in the Comet second, stole second base, moved up on a passed ball and scored on Carlie West’s fielder’s choice.

Cross, Smith, and Nesiah Davis-McKoy drew walks to begin the Slammer third. Cross scooted home on a wild pitch, and Gracyn Martin laced a single to left that scored Smith and Davis-McKoy. Martin dashed home on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 10-1.

Jaya Howell led off the 8-run Slammer fourth inning with a single. Majesti Corbett slammed a double to drive in Jaya Howell. Adrienne Howell knocked in Corbett with a single. Parker belted a single, and an error on Cross’ infield hit scored Adrienne Howell and Parker.

Davis-McKoy cracked a single to drive in Cross, and Weeks hammered a double that scored Davis-McKoy. Martin and Campbell drew walks, and Weeks and Martin scored on wild pitches.

The Comets scored their final 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Alyssa Suggs walked and stole a base then raced home when Hollingsworth ripped a single. Hollingsworth stole second and third and scored on Hill’s fielder’s choice.

Adrienne Howell batted 2-2 with 2 runs batted in to lead the Slammer hitters. Parker finished 2-2 at the plate with an rbi. Weeks and Starkloff slugged 2-run doubles, and Corbett clubbed an rbi double.

Martin delivered a 2-run single, and Davis-McKoy and Kinlaw added rbi singles. Cross and Jaya Howell contributed one single each.

Hollingsworth connected for the the only Comet hit and drove in a run. West and Hill drove in one run each.
