Bladen Community College has selected Dr. Dolly Horton in the search for the college’s Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development. The search began earlier this summer, when Jeff Kornegay, Executive Vice-President and Chief Academic Officer of Bladen Community College announced he would retire at the end of July 2021. Following Kornegay’s announcement, Bladen Community College conducted a nationwide search for candidates.

“We are confident that the search process has provided BCC with a strong list of qualified candidates,” said Dr. Amanda Lee, Bladen Community College President. “Throughout the process, our goal was to seek the candidate who would provide outstanding leadership, experience, and vision to further advance the college and our community. We have found such a candidate in Dr. Horton and look forward to her joining our team.

Dr. Dolly Horton comes from Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama where she has been since March 2021 as the Dean of Health Sciences. Dr. Horton was recruited to assist Bishop State Community College with the development of its new health sciences division, creation of two new medical training facilities, and designing a strategic plan of action for the growth of new health-related programs.

Prior to this, she served as Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Isothermal Community College in western North Carolina for four years. She has also served as Dean of Allied Health and Public Services at Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College for ten years and at Mayland Community College as Coordinator for Medical Assisting for seven years.

Her educational history began with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting from Western Piedmont Community College followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Carolina University. She has a Master of Education from Regent University and a Doctorate of Education from Walden University.

The Bladen Community College Board of Trustees approved Dr. Horton’s selection and
