On Friday, June 26, at 6 p.m., Bladen Community College will honor its Class of 2020 and can be viewed by the public with a click on a link that will be embedded on the college’s website www.bladencc.edu and on the college’s Facebook page. Chad Porter (pictured), a nationally renowned motivational speaker and author with local ties, will be the featured guest speaker.

Plans include the recognition of each graduate and the event is expected to be about an hour in duration.

Graduates are urged to submit a photo and tribute to the college as soon as possible to be used during the celebration. Detailed instructions on how to get that done and a video tutorial to assist is on a dedicated web page of the college’s website. Also, college staff is available by phone or email to guide graduates as well.

Prior to the virtual graduation celebration, members of the Class of 2020 will have the opportunity to participate in a “drive by and pick up” procession to retrieve their diplomas and be given a commemorative gift sponsored by Bladen Community College Foundation. Dates and time for retrieval are Tuesday, June 23 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24 from 10 a.m. until noon. Graduates may choose which day and time is convenient for them.

As a safety precaution, students will be asked to stay in their cars and line up at the campus entrance between the Student Resource Center (library) and the Lynn King Allied Health Building (Building #20). Staff will be practicing social distancing while distributing the items during the procession.

“No one could have anticipated the impact of this virus on our lives and your semester,” Bladen Community College President Dr. Amanda Lee said. “I am deeply grateful for your remarkable resilience and that of our faculty and staff. Your hard work will continue to serve you well in the future. I look forward to celebrating with you and your families, friends, our BCC family as well as the community on Friday, June 26th!”

In addition to the virtual graduation celebration, graduates are encouraged by Dr. Lee to participate in a more traditional commencement ceremony in person next spring.
