The celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was celebrated in Bladen County on Monday. After the annual parade another celebration took place. “Let Freedom Ring”: Celebrating the continuing dream of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was held at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church to honor the American hero.

Rev. John Goodman, who serves as a Presbyterian Parish Pastor, said the idea began about 7 years ago. Back then, Bladen Presbyterian Parish Pastor Jim Bartlett thought this would be a special way for the public to get together and to consider what Rev. Dr. King’s dream was and learn about his legacy.

The festivities included a light lunch, prayer, scripture reading, singing of hymns, and an address from Rev. Pia Jessup. The East Bladen Gospel Choir preformed the National Anthem.
The speaker for this year’s event was the Rev Pia Jessup who serves as pastor of Rose Hill AME Zion Church in Whiteville.
Jessup spoke about how we can come together to continue the dreams and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rev. David Holloway gave the Benediction to conclude the unity service.
