BLADENBORO – Bladenboro raced to leads of 10-0 and 17-3 en route to a 37-11 girls basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday in the opening round of the Bladen County Tournament.

Mallory Bryan sparked the 10-0 Lady Bulldog spurt with a basket and 2 free throws, and Marlie Walters, Megan Pait and Holland Davis threw in a basket each.

Bryan sank a basket and 2 free throws in the second period. Montserrat Castro dropped in a basket, and Pait drained a free throw as the Bladenboro lead grew to 17-3. Kiera Lewis made the first Tar Heel basket, and Violet Allen cashed in a free throw.

Pait tossed in 2 baskets for Bladenboro in the third period. Davis and Kallie Bass pumped in a basket each to stretch the lead to 25-8. Leidi Zuniga popped in 2 baskets and a free throw for the Lady Panthers in the quarter.

Bryan and Noria Singletary connected for 2 baskets each in the final quarter, and Walters and Marly Crabtree added a basket each in the period. Lewis bombed in a 3-point shot for Tar Heel.

Bryan topped all scorers with 12 points for Bladenboro. Pait totaled 7 points, and Walters, Singletary and Davis finished with 4 points each. Lewis and Zuniga shared scoring honors for Tar Heel with 5 points each.

Coach Otis Evans’ Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-1 on the season and advanced to Thursday’s championship game against Elizabethtown. Tar Heel is now 0-3.
