It was determined that fire bombs caused the destruction of two businesses in Elizabethtown. The Fowler Simmons Department Store and the IGA store on Broad Street were destroyed. The damages were in the $350,000 range.

Bladen County deputies and ATF officials destroyed a 1,200 gallon illicit liquor still in the White Oak area of the county.

One person was killed and six were injured by a shotgun blast as they exited a night spot three miles south of Elizabethtown known as “The Chimney”.

It was announced that Carver’s Creek Textiles was to begin operations in the Carver’s Creek section of Bladen County.
