BLADENBORO – Bladenboro’s Lady Bulldogs survived a couple of close matches Tuesday and won the Bladen County Middle School Volleyball Tournament Championship outlasting Elizabethtown in the championship game.

The Lady Bulldogs edged Clarkton School of Discovery 2-1 in their tournament opener. Elizabethtown advanced to the title game with a 2-0 victory over Tar Heel. The Lady Cougars battled Bladenboro to a 1-1 standoff in the final match, before Bladenboro claimed the last set for a 2-1 victory.

“My girls pulled it off, but it wasn’t the same way they played Central the other day,” said Bladenboro Coach Jessica Rhodes. “The other teams (Clarkton and Elizabethtown) played well, and I guess the word ‘tournament’ got in my girls’ heads.”

Bladenboro closed out the season with an 11-3 record and the Bladen title. Team members are: Amiya McCarty-Maxfield, Hadley Dove, Allison Hickman, Maycee Kinlaw, Adyson Carroll, Kristen Singletary, Hailii Andrews, Imani Graham, Abbey Nance, Elizabeth Miller, Kylee Davenport, Amelia Cummings, Caity McLaurin, Halle Nobles, Addison Wilcox, Chloe Walters, Venus Cortes Garcia, Jordan Powers, Ella Johansen, Alejandra Clemente and Alondra Gutierrez.
