North Carolina NAACPDeborah Dicks Maxwell of Brunswick County was honored recently at the North Carolina NAACP Annual Banquet and Awards ceremony for her efforts in organizing a Bladen County chapter.  Maxwell has served as director of District for the past two years.  In that role, she works with NAACP chapters in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender.
Dr. William Barber, State NAACP President, made the presentation at the Winston Salem, NC meeting.
Maxwell organize the Bladen County chapter to assist in addressing the problems that occurred during the investigation of the death of Lennon Lacy, an eighteen year old West Bladen student, found hanging on a swing set on August 29, 2014.  Officials ruled his death a suicide.
The FBI has been investigating the case since December, 2014.
Maxwell, a Brunswick County Health Department social worker, traveled to Bladen County on evenings and weekends to assist in drawing the community together to form the new chapter.
