The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it’s continuing its Safetypup® program in the fall for children in preschool through fifth grade. It will be the ninth year for the program.

“We are pleased with the materials and services provided by the National Child Safety Council.” Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker said. “Our office has received many compliments and thank you letters from the community and children regarding our program.”

The National Child Safety Council (NCSC) is a federal tax exempt 501 (c) (3), not-for-profit, organization. For over 68 years the NCSC has helped law enforcement throughout 48 states coordinate effective child safety educational programs. The educator-designed materials the Sheriff’s Ofice receives each year are filled with games, pictures, puzzles, riddles and rhymes and songs.

NCSC has developed the Safetypup® program as a fun and easy to learn the rules of safety. “The materials reach youngsters at their age level and contain topics that can affect a child’s life.” Dale Royer, coordinator for the council informed us. “Safetypup® has become a safety hero and positive role model for our young children. Safetypup® is a fun loving puppy, and visible reminder to stay safe and drug free.”

“The Sheriff’s office is currently mailing letters of request throughout Bladen County seeking financial support for this most worthwhile program,” Sheriff McVicker said. “The Safetypup® program is solely provided by the generous contributions of our local concerned business, industrial, financial leaders, military, and civic organizations. We need their help to keep the Safetypup® program ongoing each year.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently mailing letters requesting contributions to the 2023-2024 program.
