Spread the love

By Cara Beth Lewis and Leyton Ezzell

On the first day of 2022, volunteers and members of the community gathered at Bladenboro Historical Building for New Year’s Day lunch. A traditional menu of black-eyed peas, collards, cornbread, chicken and rice, a slice of cake for dessert, and tea to drink was served for $8, for the benefit of Bladenboro Historical Society and the maintenance of Bladenboro’s beloved Historical Building.

Joyce Walters, a member of the committee, told BladenOnline, “We’ve normally done very well. We’ve been doing the New Year’s event for the past 3 years with a good turnout.”

While making final preparations for the fundraiser on Saturday, Greg Lennon shared, “We’re hoping for lots of hungry people, I think that it’s going to go great because it’s a pretty day and people are gonna wanna get out and support their local town.”

This fundraiser is an important event for Bladenboro’s Historical Society, as it raises important and necessary funds for the group’s efforts. Eddie Walters, a member of the directors, told BladenOnline, “It’s a decision made every year. This is the first time we’ve done it in two or three years. It’s always been one of our major fundraisers in the past.”

Members of the Historical Society were thankful to be able to host this event once again, and are thankful for the community’s support.
