RED SPRINGS – Senior Zamar Lewis posted a double-double of 19 points and 20 rebounds Tuesday night as East Bladen’s Eagles remained unbeaten in Southeastern Athletic Conference play with a 64-50 boys basketball victory over Red Springs.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles, now 5-0 in the SAC-7 and 13-2 overall, will host 2nd place St. Pauls (4-1 in SAC-7) Friday night in a key conference match-up.

Lewis also blocked 3 Red Devil shots. Senior teammate Jacob Nixon filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocked shots. Senior Malcolm Bolden dished out 5 assists to go with his 7 points and 2 steals.

Junior Lee Barnes and senior Yontee Dobson added 6 points each. Senior Malaki Monroe tallied 5 points, and sophomore Rodney Lacewell contributed 4 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Dominick Collins had 2 assists and 2 steals.

All of that was needed to hold off the Red Devils and 6-4 junior Jaylen Sturdivant who blistered the nets with four 3-point shots and 8 other baskets for a total of 29 points. Teammates Makhi Arthur and Jamey Tedder netted 6 points each, and high-scoring Kaedon Porter was limited to 5 points.

Sturdivant poured in 3 baskets, a free throw and a 3-pointer to spark the Red Devils to an early 20-15 lead. Dobson battled inside for a trio of baskets, Nixon buried a 3-ball and 2 free throws, and Lewis worked the paint for a pair of buckets to keep the Eagles close.

Lacewell and Lewis muscled in 2 baskets each in the 2nd quarter. Barnes nailed a 3-point shot, Monroe threw in a basket and a free throw, and Bolden hit a foul shot as a 15-4 run produced a 30-24 East Bladen halftime lead.

Lewis took control inside in the 3rd period with 3 baskets and a free throw. Nixon buried a 3-point shot and 3 free throws, and Monroe tacked on a basket as the Eagle lead grew to 45-33.

Bolden caught fire in the final quarter with a trio of buckets, and Lewis and Nixon tossed in 2 baskets each. Barnes drilled in another 3-ball, and Lacewell popped in a basket. Sturdivant scorched the nets with a trio of 3-balls and 3 other baskets in the period for the Red Devils, but it wasn’t enough.
