FAIRMONT – Cedreke Smith keyed a 2nd half Fairmont rally with four 3-point baskets as the Tornadoes rallied for a 58-56 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

 

Smith drilled in a pair of 3-point shots and 2 other baskets in the 3rd period as the Tornadoes trimmed the Eagles 11-point halftime lead to 42-34.

 

Senior Freddy Wooten threw in 2 baskets and a free throw, and senior Javant McDowell powered in a pair of baskets to help keep East on top. Sophomore teammate Malcolm Bolden nailed a 3-point shot, and senior Rasean McKoy and junior Nazire Smith tossed in baskets.

 

Syncere Southern pumped in a 3-point shot, another basket and 3 free throws for the Tornadoes in the 4th quarter. Smith knocked down 2 more 3-balls, and Jahkeem Moore tacked on 2 baskets and 2 free throws during Fairmont’s 24-14 closing run.

 

East Bladen’s inside duo of McKoy and McDowell combined for 12 points in the final period. McKoy dropped in a trio of baskets, and McDowell worked the paint for 2 baskets and 2 free throws. Bolden popped in a basket.

 

Smith led Fairmont with 17 points, Saquan Singletary followed with 13 points, and Southern totaled 12 points. Moore added 9.

 

McDowell topped the Eagle scoring with 15 points, and McKoy was right behind him with 13 points. Wooten popped in 10 points, and Bolden contributed 9 points.

 

Wooten, McKoy and Bolden fired in 2 baskets each in the opening quarter as the Eagles raced to a 15-7 lead. One of Wooten’s buckets was a 3-ball, and McDowell muscled in a basket.

 

East Bladen senior Charles Brown flipped in a pair of baskets in the 2nd quarter, and McDowell and senior Jacob Priest sank a basket and a free throw each. McKoy netted a free throw as the Eagle lead grew to 26-15 at halftime.

 

The Eagles, now 5-4 overall, will host St. Pauls Tuesday night.
