BURGAW – Guard Rodney Hansley bombed in a trio of 3-point shots to spark a 15-4 third quarter spurt that propelled Pender to a 56-39 Four County Conference boys basketball victory Wednesday night over West Bladen.

The Patriots led 26-22 at halftime before Hansley’s barrage opened up a 41-26 lead. Junior Jonathan Robinson and senior John Bowen scored the only Knight baskets in the quarter.

Senior Sayaun Dent threw in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter for West Bladen, and John Bowen drained a 3-point shot and another basket. Junior Jimmy Williams added another Knight basket.

Cameron Kea hit 5 of 6 free throws and scored 9 points in the final period for Pender, and Hansley added a basket and 2 free throws. Kea led the Patriots with 16 points, Hansley followed with 15 points, and Andre Devane finished with 14 points.

The Patriots jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead as Kea, Devane and Jarious Williams scored 4 points each. John Bowen dropped in a pair of baskets for the Knights, and senior Kalvin Page scored a basket.

Dent rallied the Knights in the second period firing in 3 baskets, a 3-point bomb and a free throw. John Bowen buried a 3-point shot and tacked on another basket as the Knights trimmed the margin to 26-22.

John Bowen led the Knights with 17 points, and Dent was right behind him with 16 points.

The Patriots connected on 13 of 18 foul shots, while the Knights made all 4 of their free throws.

West Bladen, now 8-2 in league play and 15-5 overall, will host Heide Trask Friday night.
