ELIZABETHTOWN – League-leading West Columbus defeated East Bladen 56-31 Wednesday night in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball action.

Junior Ty’Quawn Johnson drilled in a pair of 3-point shots and 2 free throws in the first quarter as the Vikings built a 12-3 lead.

The Viking lead grew to 16-3, before the Eagles answered with a 10-4 spurt. Senior Bryon Bowen muscled in an 8-foot leaner and hit 2 free throws. Senior Keshaun Davis dropped in a follow, and senior Darrell Banks stole the ball and raced for a lay-up then hooked in a runner.

Daquan Hardie’s follow shot gave the visitors a 22-13 halftime lead.

Bowen cashed in a free throw then turned a steal into a lay-up to begin the second half. Tyshawn Berkeley buried a 3-point shot to trim the Viking lead to 27-20. A driving bank shot by Davis kept the Eagles within 31-22 before an 11-0 West Columbus run opened up a 42-22 lead.

Johnson topped all scorers for the Vikings with 15 points, and Brandis Kelly and Marquise Ratliff followed with 9 points each.

Bowen led the Eagles with 9 points. Sophmore Freddy Wooten finished with 5 points, and Banks and Davis contributed 4 points each. Sophmore Javant McDowell pulled down 5 rebounds.

The Eagles, now 1-4 in league play, resume action next Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Adidas Christmas Tournament at West Bladen.
