BLADENBORO – Pender defeated West Bladen 5-2 Thursday night in non-conference boys’ soccer action.

Junior Aiden Russ and sophomore Kevin Sebastian fired in the Knight goals, and both of them picked up assists on their teammate’s goals. The Knights trailed 2-1 at halftime.

Freshman Alejandro Lopez Sandoval had 4 shots on goal for West, and Sebastian finished with 3 shots on goal. Junior Kevyn De La Cruz Labra and sophomore Jonah Bryan launched 2 shots on goal each. Senior Ricardo Rodriguez Gonzalez and junior Christopher Ramirez Labra had the other shots for the Knights.

Senior Oswaldo Gonzalez-Labra was credited with 6 saves in goal for West, and junior Cade Allen had 1 save. Senior Shaun “Walker” Barkley sparked the Knight defense with 10 steals. Ramirez Labra came up with 9 steals, and Lopez Sandoval totaled 8 steals. Sebastian had 4 steals, and Bryan, junior Bryant Ortiz-Aguilar, sophomores Jonathan Ortiz-Hernandez and James Vasquez-Garcia added 3 steals each.

The Knights, now 2-7, will travel to Lumberton Tuesday night for a 7 o’clock game.
