BLADENBORO – Red Springs scored the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left Thursday night and edged West Bladen 2-1 in Southeastern Athletic Conference boys’ soccer action.

After the teams battled through a scoreless first half, sophomore Kevyn De La Cruz Labra turned an assist from senior William Verdugo-Gomez into a goal with 29:58 remaining that put the Knights up 1-0.

Red Springs tied the game with 19:08 on the clock then tacked on the game-winner in the closing seconds.

Senior Joshua DeLeon peppered the Red Devil net with 4 shots on goal, and junior Oswaldo Gonzalez-Lopez recorded 12 saves for the Knights.

For Coach Kristen Parker’s Knights, now 0-8 overall and 5-10-1 overall, it was another tough loss in what might be the toughest 2A soccer league in the East. “I know how good we are and how far we have come,” she said, “But that doesn’t make the losses hurt any less – especially for my guys who have put so much of themselves into it.”

West Bladen will travel to St. Pauls Monday.
