ROSE HILL – Union and West Bladen traded goals throughout their game Monday night, but the Spartans scored 2 goals in the 2nd half to hang on to a 5-4 non-conference boys’ soccer victory.

Junior Kevyn De La Cruz Labra scored the 2 1st half goals for the Knights pounding in a penalty kick in the 12th minute, then knocking in another goal in the 26th minute after Union had tied the score 1-1.

The Spartans found the back of the net with 2 more goals to go up 3-2 at halftime then opened the 2nd half with another goal to go up 4-2.

Junior Christopher Ramirez Labra drilled in a West goal in the 53rd minute to slice the Union lead to 4-3, but the Spartans answered again to up the count to 5-3. Freshman Alejandro Lopez Sandoval fired in another Knight goal to whittle the final margin to 5-4.

Lopez Sandoval and junior Cade Allen dished out assists for West. De La Cruz Labra had 3 shots on goal, and Lopez Sandoval, Ramirez Labra, senior Darwin Garcia, junior Aiden Russ and sophomore Jonah Bryan all had 1 shot on goal.

Senior Oswaldo Gonzalez-Lopez was credited with 6 saves in goal for the Knights and Allen had 1 save. Senior Daniel Gustafson sparked the defense with 4 steals. Junior Brady Durden, Lopez Sandoval, sophomores Dylan Hernandez and James Vasquez had 2 steals each.

West Bladen, now 2-6, will host Pender Thursday at 6:30.
