Coming off a 20-loss season, the West Bladen boys’ soccer team was looking for a good start to the 2015 season. The Knights got exactly what they needed.

Seth Britt, Jorchael Gonzalez and Victor Lopez each scored two goals, and Ray Jones scored West Bladen’s first goal, as the Knights routed the Purnell Swett Rams 7-1 on Monday in the season-opening game for both teams.

Anthony Sebastian and Trey Storms combined in goal to stop a handful of Swett shots, while the Knights defense kept the Rams offense from gaining any momentum.

The only breakdown for West Bladen came in the 11th minute when Swett’s Adam Lowry scored.

West Bladen tied the game in the 19th minute when Jones scored from 5 yards out after a pass inside the box from Lopez. The Knights took the lead for good six minutes later when Britt eluded a Swett defender, then headed the ball over the charging Swett keeper. Gonzalez’s first goal gave West Bladen a 3-1 halftime lead.

West Bladen is scheduled to play at St. Pauls on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
