East Bladen’s Trevares Carter committed to run Track at Louisburg College this fall. He signed his paperwork on Thursday morning in the East Bladen High School Media Center.

Carter competed in Track throughout his high school career at East Bladen. Most recently, he was a member of the school’s 2017 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team, which placed third at the State meet, and the school’s 2017 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team which placed second at the Regional 2A meet.

“First and foremost I want to thank God because, without Him, this would not have been possible,” said Carter.

He also took time to thank his family and his Coaches at East Bladen for their support and encouragement during his high school career. He also thanked his Coaches for their training and for supporting his decisions during his Track career.

“I plan on working hard in class just as I plan on doing on the track, and trying to do my absolute best to represent my family and hometown to the very best of my ability,” said Carter.

He plans to major in Civil Engineering while attending Louisburg College. Carter said once he earns his Associate’s Degree from Louisburg College, he plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete a bachelor’s degree and continue his career in Track.

Carter was joined at the signing table by Coach Wilson Bolden and retired Coach Cedric Mathis, his mother Pamela Pridgen and his father, Eric Carter. Also present for the signing were East Bladen High School Principal Dr. Jason Wray, JoAnne Kelly, his grandmother Myrtle Carter, and his great-aunts Daisy Gillespie and Luella Carter.

Carter said he learned about Louisburg College’s Track team by visiting the school’s website. He said, he began to correspond with the school’s Track Coach and eventually was given the
opportunity to compete for the school.

Coach Bolden said, Carter did well this season in the 100 and 200 Meter races as well as competing at the State meet in the 4 x 200 Meter.

Carter’s mother, Pamela Pridgen said, “It’s been a long road, but I’m so glad that we finally got to this moment. I am so very proud of him for going forth to achieve his goals of going to college.”

Pridgen added, “He has had so many obstacles, but he has always been a go-getter even when such a task seemed to be bigger than he was; he still beat the odds. He is a prime example of how believing in yourself and being humble will take you a long way.”

His father, Eric Carter said, “This is a milestone for him. This is the first, in a long line of chapters for him.”

East Bladen’s Principal Wray congratulated Carter and his family. He noted the future is very bright for Carter.

“The family is proud, as they should be,” said Principal Wray.

Carter reports to Louisburg College on August 21st.
