Sure, competitive eating champion Joey Chesnut swallowed a record 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes in 2021 and easily won Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest in July with 63.

But would the 15-time hot dog eating champion be a winner — or a weiner — in an eating contest at the North Carolina State Fair?

The State Fair released its list of new foods available this year, claiming its vendors “really knocked it out of the park.” The fair is Oct. 13-23 in Raleigh.

Gobble 76 or 63 of any of these in a lifetime, much less in 10 minutes, and you’ll likely be knocked out of the park for good. In fact, eat one of each during a State Fair visit and it will be a long, long trip back to Bladen County, if you make it.

Here are the items that caught my attention.

• Deep Fried Bacon Mac-n-Cheese Tacos
• Chicken Pot Pie Biscuit
• Cornbread & Chili Savory Funnel Cake
• Curry Goat Platter
• Rattlesnake Corn Dog
• Dill Pickle Pizza

Any of those that you want to try? The deep fried bacon mac-n-cheese tacos (pictured at top) look tempting, but not sure it’s on the diet of a senior citizen. Definitely would have been at the front of the line as a teenager.

Pro Tip: Don’t eat the cornbread & chili savory funnel cake and then ride the Tilt-A-Whirl.

TUESDAY’S PICK TO CLICK

Dansby Swanson homers against Miami’s Braxton Garrett as the Atlanta Braves officially wrap up the National League East title and a first-round playoff bye.

MONDAY’S PICK: Cooper Kupp will score a touchdown and have more than 100 yards receiving for the Los Angeles Rams against the San Francisco 49ers. RESULTS: Kupp caught 14 passes for 122 yards, but the Rams didn’t score a touchdown in a 24-9 loss to the 49ers.
