The National Weather Service of Wilmington stated in an email yesterday there is an increasing threat of life-threatening rip currents and rough surf conditions due to swells from Hurricane Earl (830 miles SE of Cape Fear). The flyer in the post shows a one-page briefing highlighting the threat.
NWS of Wilmington also said, “The risk of rip currents will be lower at south-facing beaches of Brunswick county. However, rough surf is still expected due to the strength of incoming swells.”
In closing the NWS added,”Remember, distant hurricanes still pose a threat to the coast even when hundreds or thousands of miles away. In 2019, Hurricane Lorenzo, 2000 miles away, killed more people in North Carolina (four) than Hurricane Dorian (1 indirect).”
