ELIZABETHTOWN – Fox Sutton stole home with the winning run in the bottom of the 5th inning as the Tar Heels rallied from a 9-5 deficit to defeat the Braves 10-9 in Dixie Boys Baseball action.
Dawson Edwards, Demarius Guions and Jamari Adams drew walks to start the Tar Heels rally. Omar Powell belted a single, and Sutton pounded a double. Edwards, Guions, Adams and Powell scored to tie the game, before Sutton raced home with the game-winner.
Luke Bryant walked to start a 5-run rally for the Braves in the top of the inning but was retired on Devan Stanley’s fielder’s choice. Gavin Brisson, Delton Murdock and Ashton Bryan reached base on errors, and Sam Cummings and Dylan Brisson smacked singles. Stanley, Gavin Brisson, Cummings, Murdock and Dylan Brisson all scored to put the Braves on top 9-5.
Bryant cracked a single and scored a Braves run in the 1st inning. Murdock and Bryan raked singles in the 2nd inning, and both scored to pad the lead to 3-0 as Josh Strickland reached base on an error.
The Tar Heels answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Jayden Byrd walked, and Braiden Dixon and Javonte Smith swatted singles. Byrd and Dixon both scored to whittle the lead to 3-2.
Murdock blasted a home run to right-center field to stretch the Braves lead to 4-2 in the 4th inning.
The Tar Heels rallied for 3 runs in the home 4th to edge ahead 5-4. Powell and Sutton drew walks, and Dixon was hit by a pitch. Powell, Sutton and Dixon all came around to score.
Sutton doubled and scored twice for the Tar Heels. Powell, Dixon and Smith added 1 hit each. Powell and Dixon scored 2 runs each. Adams, Byrd, Edwards and Guions also scored runs.
Murdock batted 2-for-3 with the home run and scored 3 runs for the Braves. Bryan also finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Bryant, Cummings and Dylan Brisson had 1 hit each. Bryant, Stanley, Gavin Brisson, Cummings and Dylan Brisson scored 1 run each.
Powell started and struck out 5 batters for the Tar Heels. Sutton relieved and struck out 3. Cole Brisson, Stanley and Bryant shared the pitching duties for the Braves.
