RIEGELWOOD – South Columbus scored 7 runs in all 4 innings Saturday to outscore Bladen County 28-16 in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AA (Coach Pitch) Supplemental Tournament.

Bladen County will play Columbus County at 3:30 Sunday in the tournament semifinals for a chance to advance to the finals. South Columbus remains unbeaten and will play Whiteville Sunday.

After South jumped ahead 7-0, Bladen responded with 4 runs in their half of the 1st. Britton “BB” Christian and Reid Butler belted singles and circled the bases on errors. Carter Valenta and Colton Thompson raked singles, and both of them came around to score on errors. Julian Bryant hammered a triple.

South Columbus extended their lead to 14-4 in the top of the 2nd. Grayson Babson and Cedairus Ballard cracked singles to start the Bladen 2nd. Christian reached base on an error, and Butler reached on a fielder’s choice. Jackson Davis yanked a single to leftfield. Valenta smashed a single, and Thompson lined a double.

Jensen Burney walloped a home run, but his run didn’t count due to the 7 runs per inning limit. Babson, Ballard, Christian, Butler, Davis, Valenta and Thompson all scored to slice their deficit to 14-11.

South stretched their lead to 21-11 in the 3rd. Major Bostic and Babson started the Bladen 3rd with singles, and Bostic scored on Gus Bordeaux’s fielder’s choice.

South pushed the margin to 28-12 in the top of the 4th. Butler, Davis and Valenta ripped singles in the Bladen 4th inning. Thompson drilled a double, and Burney rapped a single. Butler, Davis, Valenta and Thompson all scored.

Thompson batted 3-for-3, slugged 2 doubles and scored 3 runs. Valenta also finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 runs scored. Babson batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored. Butler finished 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Davis batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.

Burney finished 2-for-3 with a home run. Bryant clubbed a triple, and Christian, Bostic and Ballard added 1 hit each. Christian scored twice, and Bostic and Ballard scored runs.
