TABOR CITY – Ashton Davis struck out 9 batters in 3 perfect innings on the mound and drove in both Bladen runs as Bladen County edged Whiteville American 2-1 Saturday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Majors Tournament.

Chase Bryan drew a lead-off walk in the Bladen 1st inning, Luke Bryant beat out a bunt single. Davis then ripped a single to left-center field that scored both runners for a 2-0 Bladen lead.

Davis started on the hill for the winners and struck out the side in the opening 3 innings. Bryan pitched the next 2 innings and allowed a run on a bunt, 2 walks and a hit batter. Bryan struck out 4 batters. Andrew Wren closed out the game with a hitless 6th inning striking out 3 batters and walking one.

Davis’ 2-run single led the Bladen hitters. Bryant and Bryan scored runs, and Bryant had the bunt single. Teammate Greg Banks slammed a 2nd inning double, and Wren belted a single in the 4th inning.

Bladen County will play Columbus County at 4 p.m. Sunday. Columbus County defeated South Columbus 7-5 Saturday.
